August 13, 2008: "Maternal Salma Hayek"

Salma Hayek is very maternal.

The 'Frida' actress gave birth to her daughter Valentina Paloma last September and has impressed her friend, American fashion stylist Phillip Bloch, with her parenting skills.
Phillip told America's OK! magazine: "She's nurturing and maternal."

The stylist also revealed Salma was keen to "nest" with her daughter following the birth instead of rushing back to work.

Salma and Valentina Paloma's father, French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault, announced they had called off their engagement last month, but Phillip insists the actress is dealing well with the split.

He said: "Salma has survived many romances. She finds happiness in the ones she loves. She's passionido!"

Salma and Francois-Henri were reportedly set to marry later this year.

August 5, 2008: "Bomb Threats Scare Tom Cruise, Salma Hayek's Production Companies"

Tom Cruise and Salma Hayek's production companies have both received bomb threats from an anonymous phone caller, which turned out to be a false alarm.

Cruise' United Artists production company, Hayek's Ventanarosa production company, and talent agency ICM had been evacuated when other tenants at the MGM building had received a mysterious phone call saying a bomb would be activated at noon.

After notifying the Los Angeles Police Department, the building occupants were reportedly told to vacate the premises from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The property was immediately searched thoroughly for explosives or other suspicious devices. However, nothing suspicious was found.

The LAPD has allowed the tenants to reenter the building at 2 p.m.

July 18, 2008: "Salma Hayek And Fiance Call Off Engagement"

Salma Hayek and her fiance have called off their engagement. The 'Frida' actress and French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault were reportedly set to marry later this year, but their spokesperson confirms the plans have now been "canceled."

The representative said: "We are sad to announce the engagement of Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault has been cancelled. There will be no further comment."

Salma - who met Francois-Henri in Venice in May 2006 - revealed earlier this year she didn't see the importance of getting married, and instead wanted to celebrate their relationship with a huge party for friends and family.

She said: "I don't have a need for marriage. You want to grow old with someone, you want to have a partner and to have children - we have all those things. Some people need the commitment. Maybe we'll just have the party!"

In the interview, Salma also insisted the couple were happy with their relationship and could cope with Francois-Henri living in Paris, France, while Salma stays with Valentina in Los Angeles.

She added: "To most women it's crazy. But every relationship is unique, and in order to make it work you have to be willing to listen - not only to your partner, but to the relationship itself."

"You have to be brave enough to say, 'This is who we are. We might not look like the perfect couple, or like our parents did, but this is our love story.'"

July 2, 2008: "Salma Hayek Planning $3.5 Million Wedding"

Salma Hayek is reportedly planning to spend $3.5 million on her wedding. The 'Frida' actress is set to wed Francois in a lavish ceremony in France next spring.

A source told the National Enquirer magazine: "It took Francois over a year to get Salma to agree to marry him, and he doesn't want to spare any expense. Francois basically gave her the key to the vault and said, 'Go wild.'"

"Salma has dreamed her whole life about a Cinderella wedding."

Salma is believed to have ordered a $500,000 customized wedding gown made by Nicolas Ghesquiere, who previously designed Nicole Kidman's wedding dress.

The couple reportedly plan to fly in 400 guests on private jets to join them for the five-day celebrations, which will be held at a chateau near St. Tropez.

The source added: "The ceremony and the reception will be off the charts. The flower budget alone is almost a million dollars. Guests will eat Beluga caviar, fresh lobster and Kobe beef from Japan. They will enjoy the finest French and Italian wines and champagne. The total food budget for food and alcohol is more than $1 million."

The couple are also said to have ordered an impressive seven-tier wedding cake which will cost around $100,000.

Valentina will be dressed in a handmade $50,000 gown.

May 30, 2008: "Salma Hayek Slams Paparazzi For Attacks"

Actress Salma Hayek has hit out at aggressive photographers, because they continue to jeopardize the safety of her baby.

Salma Hayek gave birth to daughter Valentina, whom she had with partner Francois-Henri Pinault last year. Salma Hayek says she is shocked by the lengths snappers will go to get photos of the star with her family.

Salma Hayek says, "I was hounded when I was pregnant. And even more since I've had the baby. They are parked outside of your house and they will not move for months. I didn't leave my house for nearly three months... I've gotten hit with a camera before."

And Hayek has grown increasingly concerned since a February clash with photographers nearly sent her daughter flying to the pavement from her caretaker's arms.

Salma Hayek recalls, "First I see them attacking me with the camera and the flashes. Now she starts screaming, the baby. Then they push the nanny, she was going to the floor.

"It was so disturbing. I didn't know if they wanted to get the picture or they wanted to push the baby and get me crazy. I'm not sure because it was almost - it was really deliberate. It's a baby."

April 7, 2008: "No Baptize For Salma Hayek Daughter Valentina Paloma"

Salma Hayek's parent's aren't going to be thrilled about this one! First Salma Hayek said she wasn't going to marry her baby daddy and now she says she won't baptize little Valentina Paloma, which clashes with her parents' religious beliefs.

Salma's producer pal Felipe Fernandez del Paso recently spent Easter with her and has confirmed that Valentina won't be christened.

He tells PeopleEnEspanol.com, "The little girl is about to turn six months old. She's beautiful. Salma doesn't want her to be baptized because she just doesn't feel like it."

March 6, 2008: "Salma On Glamour"

Salma hayek Sitting down for a Glamour interview in her kitchen with V-Day founder Eve Ensler, Salma nurses her now 5-month-old baby girl and chats about her pregnancy (yes, she did have gestational diabetes), her hopes for Valentina, and just how it is you keep a relationship going when your fianc lives on the other side of the world.

On the transition to motherhood:

I believe that change keeps you young. Im a late bloomer; I always have been. Im 41, and I know a lot of women think that this is the time when you start getting depressed. To that I say, No, no, no, no, no! Im having the best time of my life.

The best thing thats ever happened to me is this thing that has happened to so many women, which is having a baby. Every second is magical, every smile.

I cannot get enough of it, because I am not sitting here thinking, "What am I going to do with my life?" Ive already established my career. I think its very good to have a child at this age. Im in a great place.

On her pregnancy:

I really embraced pregnancy. I enjoyed it. It came to me and I said, OK, this is where I go now. I had diabetes while I was pregnant. I became huge. And I said, This is what it takes for me to have this baby, and I really want it.

Then you dont know if its going to be healthy; you are completely out of control. So the experience really makes you humble.

On what has surprised her most:

Well, I have to confess something -- I wanted a boy. At the beginning I did. Probably because I was afraid. I think women suffer a bit more than boys, and there is always conflict between mothers and daughters.

But now that shes here, Im so happy shes a girl. And I cant imagine there ever being conflict between us, because Im in a state of innocence where I love everything she does. If she does a poop and I have to change the diaper, I love that moment!

On how Valentina has changed her personally:

I dont remember very well who I was before. Part of me feels like its so new and so strange to have a baby, and part of me feels like Ive known [her] face forever. Somehow I am really relaxed within the chaos of having a baby -- and anyone whos a mother knows its very hard to relax, because there is so much to do and worry about!

I just feel so fortunate to be her mother, and it makes me excited about the rest of my life, because I will get to witness her transformation every day. I feel I was born to have this girl.

On how Franois is with Valentina:

He warned me from the beginning that he gets very nervous when babies are so little -- he thinks hes going to break them! But he plays with her, sleeps with her, loves her, kisses her. Hes not obsessed like me. But hes had two [babies] before!

How their relationship works -- Franois lives in Paris, Salma in LA.

To most women its crazy. But every relationship is unique, and in order to make it work you have to be willing to listen -- not only to your partner, but to the relationship itself. You have to be brave enough to say, This is who we are: We might not look like the perfect couple, or like our parents did, but this is our love story.

On if she wishes they could be together more often:

Wishing is a good thing. But wishing you could be together more is so much better than wishing you could get the hell away from someone. [laughs]

Franois is very generous in his respect for me: He not only gets out of my way, but hes completely supportive. He pushes me in the right direction. He challenges me with a sense of humor.

I feel lucky to have found a man who is so smart and successful in his own right, so there is no competition between us. He understands I was happy and had a great life before I met him.

On if marriage is something she cares about -- she and Franois are currently engaged:

Right now I am just enjoying my baby. Do I think we are going to get married? Probably. Will it make a difference? I hope not.

I dont have a need for marriage. You want to grow old with someone, you want to have a partner and to have children -- we have all those things. Some people need the commitment. Maybe well just make the party!

On her hopes for Valentina:

Life will always be a struggle, and we will always have to work on making the world a better place. But then, working at it is what brings people together.

I hope Valentina will be much more involved than I have been, and smarter about it than I was, because she will grow up in the middle of our conversation and it will be a part of her everyday life. I will make sure she has activists and artists to talk to, and she is very lucky in that respect, because Ive surrounded myself with extraordinary human beings in many different areas. She will grow up listening to conversations that shell be privileged to hear.

Actress Salma Hayek picture(s)/pic(s), wallpaper and photo gallery
Birth name: Salma Hayek Jimenez.
Born: September 2, 1966 Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico.
Height: 5 ft 2 in (1.58 m).

Salma Hayek biography (bio):
Salma Hayek Jimenez is an Academy Award, Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated Mexican actress, Daytime Emmy-winning director, and an Emmy-nominated tv and film producer. Hayek has appeared in more than thirty films and performed as an actress outside of Hollywood in Mexico and Spain. Hayek's charitable work includes increasing awareness on violence against women and discrimination against immigrants.
Hayek was born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico to Sami Hayek, a Mexican oil company executive, and Diana Jimnez, an opera singer. Hayek's paternal grandparents were Mexicans of Lebanese descent, while her mother is of Spanish descent. Reflecting her Arab heritage, her first name literally means 'peace' or 'calm' in Arabic. Raised in a wealthy, devoutly Catholic family, she was sent to the Academy of the Sacred Heart, Grand Coteau, Louisiana, at the age of 12. She was also an accomplished gymnast aspiring to compete in the Olympics but her father prevented her from being recruited by the Mexican national team. The religious sisters running the Academy ejected Hayek citing behavioral problems, so she returned to Mexico. She was later sent to live with her aunt in Houston, Texas, where she stayed until she was 17. She attended college in Mexico City, where she studied International Relations at the Universidad Iberoamericana. To the chagrin of her family, she dropped out to pursue a career as an actress.
At the age of 23, Hayek landed the title role in Teresa (1989), a successful Mexican telenovela that made her a star in Mexico. In 1994, Hayek starred in El Callejn de los Milagros (Miracle Alley), which has won more awards than any other movie in the history of Mexican cinema. For her performance Hayek was nominated for an Ariel Award.

Career in Hollywood:
Hayek moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1991 to study acting under Stella Adler, hoping for a career in Hollywood. Robert Rodriguez and his producer wife Elizabeth Avellan soon gave Hayek the break she needed, a starring role opposite Antonio Banderas in 1995's Desperado. The movie caught Hollywood's attention, as moviegoers proved to be as dazzled by Hayek as Rodriguez had been. Due to Salma's loyalty to the director she would later decline playing the role Catherine Zeta-Jones eventually took in The Mask of Zorro after Rodriguez abandoned the project. She has also appeared in the Spy Kids trilogy.
Hayek followed her success in Desperado with a brief but memorable role in From Dusk Till Dawn. In 1999 she co-starred in Will Smith's big-budget Wild Wild West, and played a supporting role in Kevin Smith's Dogma. In 2000 she had an uncredited acting part opposite Benicio Del Toro in Traffic.
Around this time Hayek founded production company Ventanarosa, through which she produces film and television projects. Her first feature as a producer was 1999's El Coronel No Tiene Quien Le Escriba, Mexico's official selection for submission for Best Foreign Film at the Oscars. Frida, co-produced by Hayek, was released in 2002. Starring Hayek as Frida Kahlo, and Alfred Molina as her unfaithful husband, Diego Rivera, the film was directed by Julie Taymor and also featured an entourage of stars in supporting roles, including Antonio Banderas, Ashley Judd, Geoffrey Rush, Edward Norton and Valeria Golino. She earned a Best Actress Academy Award nomination for her performance. This made Hayek, along with Katy Jurado and Adriana Barraza, one of only three other Mexican actresses to have been nominated for an Academy Award.
Following Frida, in 2003 she reprised her role from Desperado by appearing in the final film of the Mariachi Trilogy, Once Upon a Time in Mexico. In that same year she produced and directed the The Maldonado Miracle, a Showtime movie which won her a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing in a Children/Youth/Family Special. In December 2005 she directed a music video for Prince, titled Te Amo Corazon ("I love you, sweetheart") that featured her good friend Mia Maestro.
Hayek is an executive producer of Ugly Betty, television series airing around the world since September 2006. Hayek adapted the series for American television with Ben Silverman, who acquired the rights and scripts from the Colombian Telenovela Yo Soy Betty La Fea in 2001. Originally intended as a half hour sitcom for NBC in 2004, the project would later be picked up by ABC for the 2006-2007 season with Silvio Horta also producing. Hayek guest-starred on Ugly Betty as Sofia Reyes, a magazine editor. She also had a cameo playing an actress in the telenovela within the show. The show quickly became a ratings hit and won a Golden Globe Award for Best Comedy Series in 2007. Hayek's performance as Sofia has resulted in a nomination for outstanding guest actress in a Comedy series at the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards.
Hayek has also been credited as a song performer in three movies. The first was Desperado for the song Quedate Aqu. In Frida she performed with band Los Vega the Mexican folk song La Bruja. She also recorded Siente mi amor, which played during the end credits of Once Upon a Time in Mexico.
In April 2007 Hayek finalized negotiations with MGM to become the CEO of her own Latin themed film production company, Ventanazul.
She is developing and producing LA BANDA, a Spanish-language romantic comedy set in Mexico, written by Issa Lopez.

Other work:
Hayek has been a spokesperson for Avon Products, Inc. since February 2004. She formerly served in the same function for Revlon in 1998. In 2001, she modeled for Chopard and was featured in 2006 Campari adverts as photographed by Mario Testino. On April 3rd of that year she helped introduce La Doa, a watch by Cartier inspired by fellow Mexican actress Mara Flix.
She was also featured in a series of Spanish language commercials for Lincoln cars. Consequently sales of the Lincoln Navigator among Hispanics increased by twelve percentage points.

In art:
In the spring of 2006, The Blue Star Contemporary Art Center in San Antonio, Texas displayed sixteen portrait paintings by muralist George Yepes of Hayek as Aztec goddess Itzapapalotl.

Personal life:
Hayek dated fellow actor Edward Norton for four years, between 1999 and 2003, and then Josh Lucas from 2003 until 2003. Hayek has homes in Los Angeles and Mexico and is best friends with Spanish actress Penelope Cruz. The two co-starred in the 2006 film, Bandidas. Hayek studied at Ramtha's School of Enlightenment.
On March 9, 2007, Salma's publicist Ina Treciokas of ID PR confirmed the actress was engaged to Franois Pinault's son, Franois-Henri Pinault and are also expecting their first child together.

Notable roles:
-Carolina in Desperado.
-Frida Kahlo in Frida.
