September 5, 2008: "Keira Knightley Hires A Bodyguard After An Encounter With A Passer-By Left Her Shaken"
Keira Knightley has hired a bodyguard after being verbally abused on the street. The actress has been left shaken after a passer-by jumped out at her and screamed obscenities as she walked alone near her home in Richmond, London.
The 23-year-old star spent much of her time in a private room at the after-party following the premiere of the "The Duchess" on Wednesday, as she feared for her safety.
She said: "The other day I was walking down the street and was really thinking about this book I'd been sent. You know when you're really in another place. Somebody jumped out and went, 'Keira Knightley!'"
"I got such a shock, I couldn't say anything because I'd been thinking about the book and this guy took incredible offense and started hurling the most amazing abuse. 'He said, 'Who the f**k do you think you f***ing are? You're such a ****.' All this, and I'm completely on my own."
The star took boyfriend Rupert Friend to the premiere and party for extra support.
She added: "It's a weird thing to have to deal with, not on a day-to-day basis, but it's happened enough to make me quite jumpy."
September 4, 2008: "Keira Knightley Admits She Wasn't Comfortable In Wearing Her "The Duchess" Costumes"
Keira Knightley wowed the crowd at the world premiere of "The Duchess" Wednesday night. The stunning 23-year-old actress signed autographs for screaming fans as she walked down the red carpet in London's Leicester Square.
Keira revealed her costumes for the film were far less comfortable than her outfit choice for the glitzy event.
She told BANG Showbiz: "It was fantastic wearing the costumes in the film. Georgiana was a huge fashion icon in the 18th Century so it was so important we got the costumes right."
"I think they were like an armor for her, she was an incredibly vulnerable character. They were obviously integral to the film."
"Not very comfortable, but very beautiful."
The "Pirates of the Caribbean" star also revealed she loves portraying spirited characters.
She added: "I find strong women more interesting to play. I also think you rarely get the opportunity to work with other women in films so I always find it great to work with other actresses."
The premiere was also attended by Keira's co-stars Ralph Fiennes, who plays the Duke of Devonshire in the film, and Dominic Cooper.

She said: "I don't pout to be sexy. I do it when I'm concentrating. I think it makes me look constipated."
Pop princess Kylie Minogue took third place in the poll of 3,000 women.
The worst pout slot went to British actress Leslie Ash, who suffered an allergic reaction to collagen injection. She was closely followed by troubled singer Amy Winehouse and British glamour model Jodie Marsh.
Keira has recently claimed she would be terrified if she had to give an Oscar acceptance speech.
She said: "I would probably s**t myself if I had to give a speech."

The 23-year-old star added: "There is always an element of fear that you are not going to be able to make people believe in the fiction, that suddenly you are going to be standing there in your dress and wig, and feel like a complete w***er. Which is not particularly helpful."
She said: "I would probably s**t myself if I had to give a speech."
August 29, 2008: "Keira Knightley Laughs At "The Duchess" Co-Star Dominic Cooper For Wearing A Flesh-Colored Nappy During Their Sex Scene"
Keira Knightley's co-star wore a flesh-colored nappy for their sex scene in their new movie.
The 23-year-old actress collapsed in a fit of giggles when Dominic Cooper, 30, stepped out in the unflattering underwear for "The Duchess."
Keira said: "We are all meant to be supportive of each other in these difficult and embarrassing scenes, but I took one look at him and just lost it."
"I couldn't stop laughing because Dominic was trying to be dignified and aloof while looking completely ridiculous. The director came over and said, 'Pull yourself together. This is serious work.'"
Despite being embarrassed by Keira's reaction, Dominic admits his costume was not the most attractive of items.
He said: "On screen, it looks as if I am naked, but in reality I was wearing a flesh-colored nappy which is held in place by being taped to my inner sanctum."
"And what did Keira do when she saw me? She burst out laughing. Unbelievable!"

Keira, who played Vera Phillips in the Dylan Thomas biopic, revealed the pair have drifted apart, despite enjoying a close friendship on set.
She said: "I love Sienna, I think she's a wonderful actress, but we've been like two passing ships in the night recently."
"I think that's lovely but also sad about acting. You get incredibly close to people and as soon as it's over you don't see each other."
"I don't think I'm very good at figuring out female friendships. I think they're quite tricky to navigate."
The 23-year-old star also said she discusses her sex life with her mother, playwright Sharman Macdonald.
She added to Britain's Glamour magazine: "Mom and I would always talk about sex. She'd come up to my room, have me roll her cigarettes and then tell me I'd have to have one with her."
"It's not the typical mother-daughter thing but we're extremely close."
"Mom's a bit mental in a good way. She's this chilled-out hippy mother. My house was always the one where my brother and his mates would be drinking when they shouldn't be."

Keira's decision comes after her breasts were enlarged for posters and in publicity stills for her 2004 movie "King Arthur."
She said at the time: "Those things certainly weren't mine! I was like, 'OK, fine. I honestly don't give a s**t!' "
Keira - who is dating her 'Pride and Prejudice' co-star Rupert Friend - previously revealed she would like to have larger breasts, adding: "I would love to have boobs! I'm never going to get them. I'm naturally who I am."

And the hairpiece was so massive, the film crew created a custom resting post to take the weight off the slender star's shoulders.
Knightley's co-star Hayley Atwell recalls, "I loved filming The Duchess - Keira has a great sense of humour. She had to wear this huge wig that was so heavy they made her a board that she could lean her shoulders and head against in between takes so she didn't topple over or get neck aches."

Keira Knightley biography (bio):
Knightley was born in Teddington, Middlesex, England to Sharman Macdonald, a Scottish actress turned award-winning playwright, and Will Knightley, an English theatre and television actor. She has an elder brother, Caleb who was born in 1979. Knightley lived most of her life in Richmond, attending Teddington School and Esher College. Knightley suffers from dyslexia, but nevertheless achieved good grades in school to please her parents, and was thus permitted to acquire a talent agent and pursue an acting career. Knightley has noted that she was "single-minded about acting" during her childhood. She performed in a number of local amateur productions including After Juliet (written by her mother) and United States (written by her then drama teacher, Ian McShane).
Knightley began acting at age seven in her television debut in Royal Celebration (1993) and appearing on the television series, The Bill (1995). She appeared in several other made-for-television films in the mid to late 1990s, before being cast as Sab, Padm Amidala's decoy, in the 1999 science fiction blockbuster Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. Knightley was cast in the role due to her close resemblance to Natalie Portman, who played Padm; the two actresses' mothers had difficulty telling their daughters apart when the girls were in full makeup. Knightley's first starring role followed in 2001, when she played the daughter of Robin Hood in a made-for-television Walt Disney Productions feature, Princess of Thieves. During this time, Knightley also appeared in The Hole, a thriller that received a direct-to-video release in the United States. She also appeared in a mini-series adaptation of Doctor Zhivago that first aired in 2002 to mixed reviews but high ratings.
Knightley's breakthrough role was in the English football-themed film, Bend It Like Beckham, which was a success in its August 2002 UK release, grossing $18 million, and in its March 2003 U.S. release, grossing $32 million. After Bend It Like Beckham's UK release raised her profile, she was cast in the big budget action film, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (along with Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp) which was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and opened in July 2003 to positive reviews and high box office grosses, becoming one of the biggest hits of summer 2003 and cementing Knightley as the new "It" girl. Knightley had a role in the British romantic comedy Love Actually, which opened in November 2003. Though charismatic, Miss Knightleys performance was overlooked in the crowded A-List cast. Her next film, King Arthur, opened in July 2004 to negative reviews, scoring only 31% at Rotten Tomatoes. While many liked the new Guinevere, Knightleys performance was overlooked and she was mostly praised for her appearance. In the same month, Knightley was voted by readers of Hello! magazine as the movie industry's most promising teen star. Additionally, Time magazine noted in a 2004 feature that Knightley seemed dedicated to developing herself as a serious actress rather than a film star.
2005 would see the release of 3 films, the first of which was The Jacket. The complex thriller starring Adrien Brody was derided by critics as unoriginal, silly and messy, scoring a disappointing 44%. Knightley was taken to task for her American accent but was otherwise dismissed by critics. Next would be Tony Scott's Domino, an action film based on the life of bounty hunter Domino Harvey. The film would be Knightleys greatest critical flop to date, scoring only 17% positive reviews. Knightleys critics often suggested she was nothing more than a pretty face, which lead the young starlet to comment to Elle magazine, I always feel like Im the one with everything to prove. Pride and Prejudice would round out 2005, scoring a lively 85%. As iconic Elizabeth Bennet, Knightley would receive the greatest reviews of her career thus far. From Variety: "Looking every bit a star, Knightley, who's shown more spirit than acting smarts so far in her career, really steps up to the plate here, holding her own against the more classically trained Macfadyen (as well as vets like Blethyn, Sutherland and Judi Dench) with a luminous strength that recalls a young Audrey Hepburn. More than the older Ehle in the TV series, she catches Elizabeth's essential skittishness and youthful braggadocio, making her final conversion all the more moving." The film would gross more than $100 million worldwide and Keira would earn a Golden Globe nomination and an Oscar nomination. It was noted that Keira was snubbed by the BAFTAs- a move which drew criticism from Pride and Prejudice producer Tim Bevan. Keira would ultimately lose both the Oscar and the Golden Globe to American actress Reese Witherspoon.
In 2006, Knightley was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Knightley's biggest financial hit thus far, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, was released on July 7, 2006. On June 3, 2007, Knightley was up for a MTV Movie Award for Best Performance but she lost to her co-star, Johnny Depp. She has recently completed filming in Silk (an adaptation of the novel by Alessandro Baricco) and Atonement, a feature film adaptation of Ian McEwan's novel of the same name, co-starring James McAvoy, Vanessa Redgrave and Brenda Blethyn.
Knightley most recently appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, which was released on May 24, 2007; she continued to film scenes for the film near the end of 2006.
In the late spring of 2007, Knightley shot The Edge of Love with Cillian Murphy as her husband, Matthew Rhys as her childhood sweetheart, Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, and Sienna Miller as Thomas' wife Caitlin MacNamara. This 2008 release was penned by her mother, Sharman Macdonald, and directed by John Maybury. She will next work on The Duchess in which she will play Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire.
As a result of her rapid rise to fame, Knightley has been the focus of significant media attention. She has been described by press reports as "famously open with media", although Knightley herself has stated "I don't talk about my private life."
She was voted the sexiest movie star of all time by the readers of Empire magazine, was ranked #79 by FHM in the magazines UK Edition 2004 100 Sexiest Women in the World list, #18 in 2005, and was ranked the sexiest woman in the world in 2006. The U.S. Edition ranked her #54 in 2004, #11 in 2005 and #5 in 2006. Knightley appeared nude along with Scarlett Johansson, on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine's March 2006 'Hollywood' issue. In May 2006, Knightley was #9 on Maxim's 2006 Hot 100.
Knightley was the celebrity face for the luxury goods brand Asprey, as well as Lux haircare products in Japanese television commercials. In April 2006, she was confirmed as the new celebrity face of Chanel's perfume "Coco Mademoiselle", though the first photo from the campaign was not released until May 2007.
She is the subject of Glasgow band Endrick Brothers song "Star of the Silver Screen" featured on their forthcoming album Attraction versus Love. The song was written after a chance meeting at a party in Glasgow during the filming of The Jacket.
Her Valentino gown at the 2006 Golden Globe Awards won her much acclaim and even landed her the top spot on Steven Cojocaru's "Best Dressed List" on Entertainment Tonight, while the dress she wore to the 2006 Academy Awards was recently donated to the charity Oxfam, where it raised 4,300.
Knightley, who currently lives in London, is dating her Pride and Prejudice co-star, Rupert Friend. She has previously dated Northern Irish fashion model Jamie Dornan, as well as actor Del Synnott, who according to some reports, attempted suicide after their relationship ended, although Synnott and Knightley deny these claims. Knightley has stated that she feels uncomfortable dressing up and that she prefers British men over any other nationality, because she feels that British men are less concerned about their own appearance.
She has denied rumours she is anorexic, although she has noted that her family has a history of anorexia, after her appearance at the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest premiere led to media speculation that her extremely slender figure was due to an eating disorder. In July of 2006, Knightley noted that she believes that she has become a workaholic, detailing that "the last five years have blended into one. I can't tell you what was last year and what was the year before" and specifying that she is "working too much" and is "quite frightened that if I continue at this rate I will start to hate what I love." As a result, Knightley may take a one year break from acting to travel and focus on her personal life.
Knightley remains a devoted fan of West Ham United, having attended many games as a child. She has said that her favorite book is War and Peace and favorite film is All About Eve.
